Background of the Study
Industrial emissions have emerged as a major environmental health concern, especially in regions with concentrated industrial activities. In Warri South, residents are exposed to pollutants that can adversely affect respiratory health (Adamu, 2023). This study examines the direct and indirect impacts of industrial emissions on lung function and the prevalence of respiratory disorders. By analyzing air quality data, hospital records, and conducting field surveys, the research investigates how long-term exposure to pollutants such as particulate matter and sulfur dioxide correlates with increased respiratory morbidity (Bello, 2024). The study also considers the socioeconomic dimensions of exposure, noting that vulnerable populations may experience exacerbated health risks. Understanding the relationship between industrial emissions and respiratory health is crucial for implementing effective public health policies and environmental regulations (Gambo, 2025). The interdisciplinary approach combines environmental science with clinical research, aiming to provide a comprehensive assessment of the health risks posed by industrial pollutants in the area.

Statement of the Problem
Residents of Warri South Local Government Area face significant respiratory health challenges, partly attributable to industrial emissions. The lack of localized research on pollutant exposure and its direct effects on lung function hampers the development of targeted health interventions (Jibiri, 2023). This study seeks to address the gap by investigating the correlation between industrial emissions and respiratory disorders, thereby providing evidence for necessary policy changes and health recommendations (Lawal, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To measure the levels of industrial pollutants in Warri South.

  2. To assess the respiratory health of the local population.

  3. To recommend interventions to mitigate respiratory health risks.

Research Questions:

  1. What are the predominant industrial pollutants in Warri South?

  2. How do these pollutants affect respiratory health?

  3. What measures can reduce pollutant exposure?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Higher pollutant levels correlate with increased respiratory disorders.

  2. Industrial emissions significantly impact lung function.

  3. Policy interventions can reduce respiratory health risks.

Significance of the Study
This study underscores the critical need for environmental and public health policies to mitigate the adverse effects of industrial emissions. It offers valuable data for stakeholders to implement targeted interventions to protect respiratory health in Warri South (Mustapha, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to assessing the impact of industrial emissions on respiratory health in Warri South Local Government Area only.

Definitions of Terms:

  • Industrial Emissions: Pollutants released from manufacturing and processing industries.

  • Respiratory Health: The condition of the lungs and respiratory system.

  • Air Quality: A measure of the cleanliness of the air, often indicated by pollutant concentration.
